IT
WAS undeniably a masterpiece of solo theatrical performance at the Tagore
Theatre as also the standing ovation from the audience led by chief guest
Neeru Nanda in appreciation of the strong spirited theatre icon, Lushin
Dubey who created history with her acting spell of 75 minutes. Drawing
the thematic base from Dario Fo's 'Medea' and Vijaydan Detha's `Nyari
Nyari Maryada', director Arvind Gaur crafted a classic thesis which enlarges
our thoughts to-wards respect for women. Lushin, with her charming personna,
resonant voice, modulation gift and eloquent stage movements aptly illustrated
the theme, multiportraying herself for over ten characters with consummate
ease and perfection. Be it the old king seducing a girl in bloom of adolescence
while cheating on the queen, or hypocrites like Royal poet Bajarhat playing
treachery with innocent wife or minister having illicit relation with
maid ser-vants and their progeny.
She defined various situations through gestures, melodramatic acting and
use of muppets. Playing the male dominated society in the same coin, she
ventures to extend her dormant love for her horse trainer with a courage
to announce in the king's court to exhort the mankind and cultivate the
indispensable virtue of feeling for a woman, in the untitled theatrical
venture. The perfect chiaroscuro effects by Arvind Gaur, classical music
blended with western beats by Sarita Gaur and Munish enhanced the beauty
of the performance in toto, brought to the city by the Oorja Entertainment.
